The largest indoor flower show in the country, The Philadelphia Flower Show is going on right now. The Irish themed show is appropriate as St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. From March 4 through 11, thousands of people will crowd into the Philadelphia Convention Center to see the wonderful Leprechauns, shamrocks, and the colorful Irish village with intricate garden layouts designed by the Mens Garden Club of Philadelphia.
Flower shows are budding all over the country with the dawn of spring. Of course, it will be in well into June before we have our big event here in Greenwood, SC. The South Carolina Festival of Flowers is the highlight of the year for most people in Greenwood, with thousands of people from all over the country pouring in for food, music, dog shows, cars shows, crafts, art, and of course more beautiful gardens and flowers than you can look at in one weekend. The only other time of the year when there are this many people in town is during the Masters, Augusta being just a little over an hour away.
The 40th annual festival happens this year on the second, third, and fourth weekends of June. The highlight of the celebration happens on the weekend of the June 23, when Park Seed has our little open house, Flower Day 2007. Main Street Greenwood (the widest Main street in the US) will be crowded with food, crafts, and live music. Then, just a short drive outside of town, Park Seed’s doors and our gardens will be open. People from all over the country come to explore our trial gardens and take tours with Park Seed’s expert horticulturists.
If you are touring garden shows or if you have a free weekend in June, please stop by. Greenwood would love to share its hospitality. For more information, check out www.scfestivalofflowers.org.
